Before & After: Sisterlock Retightening & Style

Before & After:  Sisterlock Retightening and Style

By:  Lauren Francis-Jackson

We have many amazing clients and Ms. Reynita is just one of them!  Ms. Reynita came to us 2-weeks post relaxer where we helped her transition from relaxed hair to natural because she desired Sisterlocks.  She was very persistent in knowing when she had enough virgin hair (natural hair) to start the sisterlock process.  When Lauren said that she was ready, Ms. Reynita was more than ready to start her sisterlocks journey.  Keep reading to hear about her transformation for her retightening and style appointment earlier this month!

First, Ms. Reynita had her sisterlocks retightened by our owner, Lauren Francis-Jackson.   Ms. Reynita has had Sisterlocks since April 2017.  Her Follow Up Visit was completed in 3 weeks after the locking session.  Her regular retightening frequency is 4 weeks.  Because of the high density of her hair, Lauren made sure her locks were small enough to correct for her density.  Prior to the appointment, the client shampooed her hair with the Sisterlocks Starter shampoo.  Because she also suffers from dry scalp issues, Ms. Reynita usually does an apple cider vinegar (ACV) rinse on her own prior to having her retightening.

After retightening, Lauren began the process of setting her sisterlocks on perm rods.  Perm rods are a great option for clients with short locks expecially if they are shoulder length and shorter.  They can give a tighter curl depending on size of rod used.  Now that is how you can achieve long lasting curls!  Using just water in a spray bottle, Lauren used the spray bottle to dampen Ms. Reynita’s locks.  Her locks were rodded on a variety of peach, gray, and white rods.  Larger rods (peach) were used in the back with the smaller rods (white and gray) in the front.

After Ms, Reynita was all rolled up, she sat under the Kwik Dry dryer for 1 hour and 45 minutes.  Because of the thickness of her hair, she had to spend more time under the dryer for her hair to be fully dry.  Lauren slid each section of curls off of the rod to reveal a spiral curl all over then separated for fullness.  Ms, Reynita was then able to rock her Sisterlocks with some poppin’ curls.  She was headed to an event and had some fabulous curls to rock!

Rod Set complete!  How do you like to wear your sisterlocks?  When was the last time that you did a perm rod set?
